Fun Fall Food Ideas

Fall is one of the best seasons for fruits and vegetables! Squashes, apples and brussels sprouts are some favorite fall foods.

Squash
Squash may seem hard to cook, but there are a couple of ways to make it easier!

  • Before cutting open the squash, poke with a fork 5 or 6 times, and stick it in the microwave for 5 minutes. It makes the squash softer and easier to cut in half.

  • Another option is to peel the squash before cutting it. This works with butternut squash quite well.

  • Spaghetti squash is a great option for a squash at this time of year. It is a vegetable, but looks like pasta! This recipe is great for spaghetti squash, and kids will love that it looks just like spaghetti.

  • Squash is also great to add into soups! For a fun soup, try Squash Vegetable Soup

Apples

Apples and pears are great fruits to eat in the fall. You can make your apple into a Jack-O-Lantern! Perfect for your kids during fall!

Brussel Sprouts

Brussel sprouts are a great vegetable to try as a family this fall. This vegetable is often overlooked but pairs great with other fall fruits and vegetables.

  • Roast Brussel sprouts with other veggies like sweet potatoes, cauliflower and other root vegetables.

    • Add maple syrup as a glaze in this  recipe for a sweeter option.

    • Balsamic vinegar is another great option for roasted vegetables. This is a great option since balsamic vinegar has so much flavor, you do not need to add much salt or other flavoring.

There are so many great fall fruits and vegetables to enjoy this time of year. Have a great time trying new recipes with your family  this fall.
