PIE Channel to shut down TV, go fully digital in 2024

PIE Channel will go fully digital starting January 2024, announced Kroma Entertainment, closing down its TV arm.

Kroma Entertainment said in a statement:
Starting 1 January 2024, Kroma Entertainment is thrilled to announce a significant milestone for Pinoy Interactive Entertainment (PIE). Embracing the evolving digital landscape, PIE will transition to fully online platforms, offering our unique blend of interactive and engaging entertainment beyond the realms of traditional TV and cable.

Further, cable companies have informed their customers that the PIE Channel will no longer be available after December 31, 2023.

To recap, PIE Channel is a collaboration between BEAM, 917Ventures, "tradigital" entertainment company KROMA (backed by Globe Telecom), and ABS-CBN network launched in May 2022. It was described as the Philippines' first multi-screen, real-time interactive channel that was a revolutionary TV and digital channel, airing on digital TV and is available online through its official website (pie.com.ph) and social media pages on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.

After the channel was launched last year, KROMA Entertainment Chief Executive Officer Ian Monsod said that "on PIE, those who watch become not just viewers but a well-engaged community that plays an active role in storytelling, game shows, and talk shows." He added that "whether on their TV sets, laptops, desktops, or mobile devices, PIE is accessible to Filipinos who want to try a new way to consume—and play with—the shows they love."

The PIE Channel targets a young audience and is hosted by popular Kapamilya stars like Robi Domingo, Luis Manzano, Jennica Garcia, and Melai Cantiveros.

PIE Channel presents a variety of games that people can participate in and enter raffles every day. PIE gives away more than PHP 1 million every month in total for all its games.

Among the games and shows aired on the PIE Channel are Mukhang Perya, WatchaWin, Ur Da Boss, Tamang Hinala, Sinong Manok Mo, PIE Shorts, and Para Sa All.

The individuals who support PIE games are referred to as KatroPIE. In order to be eligible, individuals must sign up for a PIE account that requests their complete name, birth date, gender, GCash-registered mobile number, and password.

Kroma Entertainment expressed their gratitude to their KatroPIEs:
A special thank you to our loyal viewers, our KatroPIEs, whose active participation in our game shows, interactive teleseryes, talk shows, chat, social platforms, and on-ground events has always been the driving force of PIE. Your engagement across our digital platforms, marked by high interaction rates, has laid the foundation for this exciting new chapter.

PIE Channel's moderator (PIE MOD) has posted on the official website that the game shows are currently on hold. However, they'll be broadcasting replays in the meantime to keep their KatroPIEs entertained.
