Spring is finally here! Fruits and vegetables that grow in Maryland are almost ready to harvest and bring to the farmers’ market. Most farmers’ markets in Maryland open in May or June and stay open through October, some are open all year. Click here to find a farmers’ market near you. You will see the days and hours the market is open, and the food supplement benefits accepted like FMNP, eWIC, SNAP/EBT. Some markets have programs which will match some of the dollars you spend using your benefits at the market – ask the market manager if they have a program like this to stretch your food dollars and buy more fruits and vegetables.
Visit the Seasonal Produce Guide to learn which Maryland grown fresh fruits and vegetables are available in Spring, Summer, and Fall. The spring harvest will bring lettuce, spinach, Swiss Chard, radishes, strawberries, and asparagus, and more!
Be prepared to shop at the farmers’ market:
- Bring clean, reusable shopping bags to the market
- Bring your benefit cards and FMNP checks
- Let kids help! Print a Farmers’ Market Scavenger Hunt and ask kids to find a new fruit or vegetable to try
- Dress for warm weather - wear a hat, and don’t forget sunscreen
