Overwatch 2 released its new tank hero, Mauga, in the Season 8: Call of the Hunt update, along with holiday events, Hero Mastery courses, and rewards.
Get ready for some intense battles and embark on a thrilling quest for exciting new rewards in the latest beast hunter-themed season of Overwatch 2. Check out more details below.
New Tank Hero: Mauga
During BlizzCon 2023, players had the opportunity to see and play Mauga in action. Now, he is here to stay as the newest Tank hero in Overwatch 2. Equipped with dual chainguns, Mauga is a formidable tactician that you will want to be careful around. He can charge through enemies with Overrun and even reinforce his team with Cardiac Overdrive. In addition, his powerful Cage Fight ultimate allows him to brawl in close-quarters combat.
Based on the players' feedback and observations, some improvements have been made to make him even more effective. Mauga's chainguns now have greater power, and he has been given additional Armor HP to help him last longer in battles.
Season 8: Call of the Hunt
The new season comes with an exciting Beast Hunter theme. Engage in a thrilling 4v4 PvPvE game mode called The Battle of the Beasts, where you'll fight against powerful Grand Beasts. Your objective is to defend your own Grand Beast while working together with your team to vanquish the enemy beast. You can play as Mauga, the only tank available in this mode, or choose from a variety of other hunter-themed heroes. Your goal is to inflict maximum damage on the Grand Beast while avoiding its powerful abilities.
Join the limited-time event and play Battle of the Beasts, along with your favorite game modes, to complete new challenges until December 19, 2023. You will earn new cosmetic items, including a highlight intro for Mauga and a new name card. Additionally, you can earn up to 25,000 Battle Pass XP to gain a head start on the Season 8 Battle Pass. As you progress, you can unlock new rewards, including the Mythic Grand Beast Orisa skin that is exclusively available in the Premium Battle Pass.
New Skins: Hard Light Weapon Skins
Introducing Weapon Skins - a brand new feature that allows you to customize your heroes in Overwatch 2. With that, the game is introducing the Hard Light theme for Rein, Reaper, and Mercy. These Weapon Skins come with their own unique visual and sound effects and can be equipped with any of the heroes' skins. Keep an eye out for other Weapon Skins arriving in future seasons.
Overwatch 2 is thrilled about the weapon customization feature, and the developers consider it to be just the beginning. As they design more Weapon Skins, they are eager to hear your thoughts on what you enjoy about the skins. Your feedback is crucial as they advance Weapon Skins and introduce fresh styles and additional methods to personalize your heroes.
Winter Wonderland Event
The Winter Wonderland Event will be launched on December 20, 2023. Overwatch 2 heroes are celebrating in style with all-new Holiday skins. You can beat challenges and unlock one free legendary skin of your choice. You can choose from the stylish Formalwear skins for Cassidy or Baptiste or the cozy Winter Jammies Illari skin. You can also dive into the action with returning fan-favorite event modes like Mei's Snowball Offensive and Yeti Hunt, with new challenges and rewards awaiting you.
Hero Mastery Courses
Master your skills with these heroes: Echo, Genji, Mei, D.Va, and Lucio.
On January 3, 2024, the next wave of Hero Mastery courses will be available. This five-week event will feature a new course for a new hero each week, along with fresh challenges and cosmetic rewards to unlock. Get ready to level up your skills and earn some cool prizes.
In Season 8, Overwatch 2 is introducing a new feature for Hero Mastery replays called Bookmarks. With Bookmarks, you can mark specific places in the replay time bar for quick viewing. The developers have also made improvements to the mode since its initial launch, which has led to the reset of leaderboards for all current Hero Mastery courses. If you already hold a spot in the current Top 500, don't worry. The developers will bring back the old leaderboards for viewing in a future update.
Lunar New Year Event
Season 8 of Overwatch will end with the Lunar New Year event. The developers of Overwatch 2 have been paying attention to player feedback and are excited to announce the return of the fan-favorite Mischief and Magic prop hunt game mode, this time on the Lijiang Night Market map with all new props. Rogue Kiriko will have new props to transform into, making the game even more exciting.
In addition to this, new Legendary skins will be available in the in-game shop, and returning modes like Capture the Flag and Bounty Hunter Deathmatch will also be available. The Year of the Dragon festivities will begin on January 31, 2024, and will include fireworks and other exciting activities.
